First Capitol historic site includes two of the buildings in which the first session of the Wisconsin territorial legislature convened from October through December 1836. Both building exteriors have been restored to their 1836 appearances, while the interiors house modern exhibits on early territorial Wisconsin and the first territorial legislature. The site was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970 (No. 70000036).
